New Characters!

In last weeks episode Glenn and Tara came across Sgt. Abraham Ford, Rosita Espinosa, and Dr. Eugene Porter.  Some of you know who they are from the comics (issue 53) and others are left wondering who they are and what they want. We can't be too sure the television series will follow the comic book series. In the comics Rick and company met Sgt. Abraham Ford, Rosita Espinosa, and Dr. Eugene Porter on Hershel's farm. Who knows what will happen, we'll just have to wait for tonight!

The Ongoing "Black Man Problem"

The Walking Dead is noteworthy for having one of the most racially diverse zombie survivor casts: the band of survivors has included a Mexican family, an Asian Indian doctor, two “rednecks”, a samurai-sword-wielding Black woman, and an Asian man. This is a show where both men and women kick ass.
It’s ironic that The Walking Dead could have such an obvious “Black Man problem”
Since the first season of The Walking Dead, the show has failed to highlight Black characters when the show takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. In the first season, there were only two Black characters, Morgan and T-Dog, neither of them received significant screen-time as we all know.
More specifically The Walking Dead has not been able to have two Black Men at the same time. As soon as another Black Man is introduced to the band of survivors he dies or the already existing Black Man dies. This has happened for three seasons now, I just hope Tyreese can hang on a little while longer. His future is not looking too bright...

This pattern has spawned many memes:

New Series: 'Helix'

Syfy is launching a new series called Helix, which features a group of CDC scientists traveling to the Arctic to investigate a disease outbreak. The first episode aired on Friday, January 10th.
The virus turns humans into creatures similar to the zombies on The Walking Dead. The executive producer of Helix Steve Maeda says they aren't trying to make a zombie show.
"We're really trying to not make it a zombie show," he says. "I would say the main difference about our vectors, as we call them, is that they are not kind of mindless sort of eating machines, and that's something that you'll see in later episodes."
"You know what? The comparisons will come, and that's OK," Maeda continues. "But we're really trying to do something that feels different than the typical zombie show."

Do you think Helix is ripping off ideas from The Walking Dead?

I didn't watch the premiere of Helix, but I'm willing to give it a chance. Even if Helix is good, no one can beat The Walking Dead, no one.

The next episode of Helix airs January 17th. Watch it and tell me what you think.

New character coming!

Meet Gareth played by Andrew J. West!

West will appear in the second half of the fourth season. His character, Gareth, doesn't seem to be a long term character on the show. As of right now West is credited as a guest star in season four and could be given the option to become a series regular in season five.

What do you think about the addition of a new cast member?

**Spoiler Alert** Where the show might go next...

After the events of the most recent episode of "The Walking Dead," it's hard to imagine where the show might go next. Lucky for us it seems that after two seasons of  the show heading off in different directions from the comics, the show has finally hooked back up with the plot of Robert Kirkman's comic book.
Here are a few places the show might go when it comes back on February 9th. **Spoilers**

The Road

This is kind of an obvious one, but after a season and a half of being in one place, it's once again time for the group to hit the road. In the comic books, after the attack on the prison, Rick and the others take a while to meet up again; and for a while have no clear destination in mind.

The Farm
This one doesn't exactly come from the comics, but rumor has it that the next stop for Rick and the others is Hershel's farm. It makes sense, as Maggie and Beth may want to go home after their father was cruelly executed. And it may tie into a story line from the books that finds Maggie trying to commit suicide.
Rumors also state that while at The Farm we'll meet new characters Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita, which will lead to ...

The Capitol
Nope, not the one in Panem. Eugene drops a bombshell on the survivors, claiming to be a scientist in touch with the US Government in Washington, D.C. Not only that, but they know how to stop the zombie plague. Though they don't quite make it all the way to the White House in the comics, seeing the remains of Washington might be a shocking, terrifying way to leave us at the end of the season four.

The Hunters
A short stop that we expect the show will get to sooner rather than later. One of the most horrifying storylines from the comics has Rick encountering a group of survivors who manage to get through the harsh winter by eating people. In the comics, they eat a one-legged Dale, who's been bitten by zombies. In the TV show, Dale died, Hershel lost his leg in his place, and then Hershel had his head chopped off in Tyreese's place.

The Safe Zone
There's probably not time to get here by the end of season four, but this is coming. The current storyline in the comics finds Rick taking the group to the Alexandria Safe Zone, a better version of Woodbury. They take control, and come into conflict with a man even more dangerous than The Governor, Negan. If you're looking for a plot line for season five, and possibly even season six, look no further.
